They say everything's bigger in Texas . And a great example of that is the Texas Triangle - a rapidly growing mega-region of five of the 20 largest cities in the United States - Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, and San Antonio. In this edition of Nat Gas Now, I would like to share exciting news about plans to build out natural gas vehicle fueling infrastructure in this mega-region.
These major Texas cities are connected by a triangle of interstate freeways: I-45, I-10 and I-35. At least 10 percent of the U.S. transportation sector travels through the Triangle each year, and this high volume of traffic has triggered concerns about fuel prices, increased pollution and our country's dependence on foreign oil.
To address these concerns, ANGA has joined a group of more than 200 stakeholders to transform the Triangle into the Texas Clean Transportation Triangle (TCTT) by creating a sustainable network of natural gas refueling stations along the connecting interstate corridors. This TCTT effort will lead to wider deployment of natural gas vehicles for businesses, cities and consumers, and provide Texans with a lower cost, domestically produced, and cleaner transportation fuel option.
In fact, you could even say the Texas Clean Transportation Triangle takes us full circle. As I explained at the end of my video interview, "Texas is a great state to be a leader in this; we produce more natural gas than any other state and we need to use more natural gas than any other state. It's good for our local economy, it's good for our state economy, and it's good for our neighbors."
