Nat Gas Now: EIA’s 2011 Annual Energy Outlook

Nat Gas Now: EIA’s 2011 Annual Energy Outlook
Monday, Feb 7

The U.S. Energy Information Administration doubled its estimated amount of American natural gas supply to 827 trillion cubic feet from the previous projection in its Annual Energy Outlook for 2011. This translates into reduced energy imports, affordable natural gas prices and hopefully an increase in the use of natural gas for electricity generation.

Initial findings from the EIA's Energy Outlook also indicate that the demand for clean domestic natural gas is rising -- no surprise given that a benefit of natural gas is stable, affordable prices for ratepayers thanks to this natural resource's abundance right here in America.

In 2010, the EIA estimated that the nation would need 28 percent more energy by 2035, and natural gas is an ideal candidate for providing reliable power across the country.  Natural gas can even serve as a back-up for renewables when the sun sets or the wind dies down.

As the nation's leaders craft long-term energy plans, the EIA's 2011 outlook offers credible, independent assurance that greater reliance on natural gas for our power generation and transportation needs can support our economic prosperity and fulfill our nation's energy demands while setting the stage for a clean energy future.

There is no doubt that to solve our domestic energy challenges, it will require a broad portfolio of clean energy technologies.  We hope that portfolio will include greater use of clean, domestic, affordable and abundant natural gas.

Please stay tuned for the EIA's full Annual Energy Outlook for 2011, which is scheduled to be released in March.
