Nat Gas Now: Clean Slate
- Nat Gas Now: Clean Slate
- Tuesday, Nov 9
With the mid-term elections behind us, it's time for our country and its leaders to start with a clean slate when discussing how best to advance our energy future.
Local, state and national leaders are looking for ways to create jobs, promote clean air, and advance our energy security. And, a big part of the answer lies right here in the United States, where we have enough natural gas to power our nation for generations.
Natural gas already is a powerful economic engine, supporting 2.8 million American jobs and contributing $385 billion to our economy annually. Greater use of this homegrown resource for transportation can help advance U.S. energy independence. And, natural gas is a cleaner energy choice for generating electricity, too. In fact, natural gas' clean profile already is uniting diverse interests. In Colorado, the landmark Clean Air-Clean Jobs Act brought together the local environmental, business and energy communities to pave the way for cleaner air and more local jobs through greater use of Colorado's own abundant natural gas.
As national leaders look for opportunities to bridge the partisan divide, it was a natural choice for President Obama to point to natural gas as a key component of a bipartisan U.S. energy policy. "We've got, I think, broad agreement that we've got terrific natural gas resources in this country," President Obama said. "Are we doing everything we can to develop those?"
As policymakers across the political spectrum look for areas of agreement where we can make meaningful progress for our nation, natural gas has a lot to offer. Jobs, clean air and energy security rank among our nation's highest priorities. And, greater use of natural gas can make a real change right now. It's time for a clean slate. And, without question one of its rallying cries should be nat gas now!
