Workforce Development in the Natural Gas Industry

Our nation's abundance of natural gas presents extraordinary opportunities to all Americans - from cleaner air to greater energy self-reliance to substantial job creation and expanding economic opportunities.  Today, natural gas is being developed safely and responsibly in 31 states - and U.S. abundance of this cleaner, affordable energy source is putting Americans back to work in all 50 states.  With natural gas, we don't have to choose between protecting our environment and building a strong economy - we can have both.

Over the next 25 years, shale gas development alone is expected to create one million American jobs.  And the opportunities extend far beyond our industry.  Responsible development and expanding use of natural gas for power generation, transportation and industrial purposes means:

  • More jobs for U.S. steel workers who make the pipes that keep our operations safe.
  • More industrial and manufacturing facilities coming home to the United States because the low cost of natural gas is making U.S. companies and workers more competitive.
  • More opportunities in our expanding industry for everyone from the recent high school or college graduate, to veterans returning to the civilian workforce, to engineers and geologists with advanced degrees.

As our community seeks to expand the nation's natural gas workforce, industry and all local stakeholders share a strong commitment to maximizing the opportunities available to the people and the institutions in the local communities where we do our work.
